Persuasive Writing Prompt #7- Driving Age

Most states allow people to get a driver's license at the age of 16. Some people feel that 16 is much too young for the responsibility that come with driving a car and that teenagers should not be allowed to drive until the age of 18. In your opinion, at what age should people be allowed to drive, and why?

Most states allow people to get driver's license at the age of sixteen. There are some people that believe sixteen is much too young for someone to be driving because they don't have responsibility and that they should drive until they turn eighteen. I believe that sixteen is a perfect age to start driving. It may be a young age, but it is best to start earlier than late. I have my reasons why driving at the age of sixteen is the best age to get you driver's license.

When a sixteen year old has the privilege to drive, it is something they should be thankful for. Once they start driving they will start to gain responsibility because they will know that it is a big job for them to be behind the wheel. A teenager will know that if they are driving they have to abide by the rules and respect the streets as anyone else does. By learning how to drive at age sixteen this will make them responsible because they will then see how an adult has to be and how they are supposed to act. It is an act they will totally change them up to become someone more responsible.

This also helps save time for the parents. For example, when a teenager has to go somewhere, instead of the parents taking where they want to go they can drive themselves. There will not be no more hassle for the parents. Now the parents will have more time to complete something or achieve a chore they have to accomplish. They will no longer hear," Mom, I need you to take me here." It will be time saving and convenient for both the teenager and their parents.

It will also be convenient for a parent to have a teenager son or daughter who knows how to drive at the age of sixteen in case of an emergency. It is always best that there are more drivers other than the parents. For example, if the father is at work and the mother at home has a heart attack or seizure, the teenager at home can drive the mother to the hospital in case the ambulance does not arrive in time to take the mother to the hospital. They can also be able to do favors for the parents, such as going to the store last minute and buying something they need. Situations like this always come and go so it is necessary to have an extra driver at home.

Sixteen should be the driving age to be able to get your license. There are many advantages to this and both the parents and the teenagers will benefit from this. It may be a young age, but it is best to start earlier than late. They will show more responsibility and their character will grow as well. I totally agree on the driving age to be legal at age sixteen.
